Amanda Wilks, M.S., LPC is licensed by the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a certified School Counselor. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from University of Houston – Downtown, and Master of Education in Counseling from University of St. Thomas – Houston. With nine years working in education, four as a school counselor, and nearly two years working as an LPC-Intern she has valuable experience helping her clients grow and make positive changes to their lives.
Amanda is a caring counselor and passionate in building helpful relationships with her clients. She believes all people are capable of self-resolution. Her first priority is to create a safe, trusting, environment where clients are able to experience positive therapeutic experiences. She strives to assist clients in recognizing the cause of their symptoms and concerns, learning positive coping strategies, reducing psychosocial challenges, achieving emotional strength, and improving their lives.
Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief-Solution Focused Therapy, Non-Directive Play, and other research-based therapy techniques, Amanda works with a broad list of issues and life changes. These include ADD/ADHD, life transitions and adjustments, anxiety, OCD, behavioral complications, divorce, anxiety, stress, depression, and other needs expressed by her clients. Amanda works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She has also facilitated parenting classes, assisting parents in different circumstances seeking help. Furthermore, Amanda has been trained in Christian Moore’s Resilience for Youth, Non-Medication Treatment for ADD and ADHD, Trauma, Mental Illness First Aid, and many other useful professional developments. She is a member in good standing of both the American Counseling Association and Texas Counseling Association.
