Kimberly Osterhout-Arcos, M.Ed., LPC
Hello, I am Kimberly Osterhout-Arcos
I have completed my master’s in counseling (M.Ed.) from the St. Thomas University, a Master in Education Administration (M.Ed.) from Texas Southern University, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Houston. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). My formal education and experience have prepared me to utilize my analytical skills, and varied knowledge of diverse cultures, verbal and observation skills that represent my Philosophy of Counseling.
There are many counseling approaches and techniques which may be utilized at any given time to meet a client’s specific needs. My counseling approach is based on my Counseling Philosophy, which includes the role of a therapist that assists a client to engage in healthy choices and discoveries within themselves. My philosophy encompasses Bandura’s Social Learning Theory and Carl Jung’s Theory of Development. The primary goal is to assist the client in self-discovery and obtaining available resources for the success of their cognitive and emotional abilities to see beyond their personal stressors. Additionally, I embrace Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, which involves a learning process where clients acquire and practice new skills; learn new ways of thinking, and more effective ways of coping and working effectively through problems.
My entrance into mental health began in diverse venues and experiences throughout my life. I experienced diversity of mental health and after working with individuals who struggled with mental illness, I decided to become a therapist who specializes in treating core symptoms, which include behavioral, emotional, and digression of the self.
I specialize in the treatment of PTSD, Gender Dysphoria and Sleep Wake Disorders. Many of my clients/ patients with PTSD, Gender Dysphoria and Sleep Wake Disorders generally suffer from depression, anxiety, and a variety of self-defeating behaviors whereby I assist with the increasing of self-worth and using strengths that may have been missed.
My goals are to assist the individuals in gaining a new understanding of the issues that underline their disorders and distress. My experiences within the diverse populations have afforded me a unique understanding of what engages these disorders and issues for individuals.
