Ashley Woodford

Ashley D. Woodford is a counseling student at Lamar University pursuing a Master of Education in Counseling. Upon earning her Masters, Ashley intends to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. Ashley earned her Bachelors Degree from Sam Houston State University and is a certified Special Education and Middle School teacher in the state of Texas. She is currently practicing under the supervision of Kimberly L. Boyd, M.S., LPC-S.

Ashley provides counseling services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families struggling with self-esteem, gender identity, sexual orientation, communication, anxiety, depression, inter- and intrapersonal skills, social and emotional learning and skills, trauma, grief, and physical and sexual abuse. Additionally, Ashley is passionate about working with those that have experienced religious trauma and has a deep understanding of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Ashley appreciates the difficulties and stressors that pertain to divorce, blending families, and co-parenting and is dedicated to assisting clients while they navigate these experiences.

During her time as a teacher, Ashley worked with Communities in Schools to teach self-awareness and social-emotional skills to middle school students. Additionally, she led the GSA, Genders and Sexuality Alliance, overseeing and mentoring students. Ashley has experience working with children experiencing a variety of obstacles and opportunities from cognitive delays to social anxiety, and values a child’s autonomy and seeks to work with children in finding their own success story. Further, she has worked with a diverse population with Autism Spectrum Disorder    and has an appreciation and understanding of Sensory Processing techniques, determining functions of behaviors, and creating working systems.

Ashley’s approach to counseling is a blend of Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Solution-Focused, and she believes in tailoring sessions to meet the client’s needs where they are in that moment - which is continually changing. Ashley’s goal is to create a space through which rapport is built in order for clients to be authentic and be able understand their obstacles and opportunities as well as to set and attain goals they create for themselves. Additionally, Ashley utilizes Play Therapy and Bibliotherapy when working with children.

Ashley is a student member in good standing of the American Psychological Association and American Counseling Association.
